We worked with QA Research to formulate a sustainable tourism strategy for Northumberland Coast AONB. The project included an audit of existing activity and facilities, a visitor survey and extensive consultation with communities and stakeholders. The strategy is being used to guide its sustainable tourism activity.

Here we worked with the local community to identify market opportunities and a list of recommendations to improve equestrian tourism provision. Following the work, a B&B is now offering riding holidays.
Through desk research, site visits, consultation and workshops we mapped and described current activity and provision for 31 activities at 220 sites. This information, plus a summary of demand and other trends has informed recreation management along the coast.
Our work on this project (managed by Hyder Consulting plc) included researching existing provision for coastal recreation and researching demand for water and land based activity tourism at the coast as well as advising on future demand trends.
Working with Hyder Consulting plc, our role here was to summarise current and likely future demand for activity tourism, to review current provision for coastal activities and to contribute to the study recommendations.
