After a comprehensive review of visitor flows and existing signage we produced a signage strategy for the Solway Coast and Plain.
Key components are:
- Applying England’s Solway Coast branding to signage design
- Primary signage from the M6
- Secondary signage guiding visitors to their destinations
- Tertiary signage providing information and interpretation at popular sites
Consultation and focus groups with members of the Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani communities of East Lancashire identified cultural and other barriers to participation in cycling. We recommended four groups most likely to participate in cycling and four pilot projects.
Here we worked with the local community to identify market opportunities and a list of recommendations to improve equestrian tourism provision. Following the work, a B&B is now offering riding holidays.
Through desk research, site visits, consultation and workshops we mapped and described current activity and provision for 31 activities at 220 sites. This information, plus a summary of demand and other trends has informed recreation management along the coast.
Our work on this project (managed by Hyder Consulting plc) included researching existing provision for coastal recreation and researching demand for water and land based activity tourism at the coast as well as advising on future demand trends.
